The wife and I got out to hunt our ghost town site this weekend. My wife got her first LC (holed) and a few hours later sniffed out a Spanish 1/2 Reale (her first Reale too) Later into the evaning I was able to pull another LC and and found a 1/2 Reale also. Thats 2 Spanish silvers in one hunt. Went back Sunday morning and again Monday morning and pulled some toasted IH's. Also got another Eagle button and some cool relics to boot. This site so far has givin up 2 Reales,7 IH's, 4 LC's, and 4 GS eagle buttons, all this on 3 hunts.
Thanks for looking.
HH

Another fine array of nice finds! WTG!

I sometimes wonder, with all the holed coins I've seen on here, has anyone ever found a hook with a lot of coins still attached? After all, it's just another form of a money purse. Right? They lose them, don't they? ;)

HH!
That's a great question, I never thought about a hook holding the coins. During the Victorian era the dresses the ladies would ware had weights in the seam to keep it down so the bloomers wouldn't show, I guess. But during the ocean crossings the weights would ofton be replaced with gold coins to keep the coins hidden. Also they would string them or sew the coins in to the inside of their coats but I am sure they would have many inventive ways to keep from loosing their cash.
I would be nice to hear of someone finding a wire or hook loaded with coins.

I'll add another thought to chew on. Suppose someone had a couple of gold coins. Like, maybe 4 or 5 5 dollar pieces. They're holed and strung on a fairly heavy wire loop. Not a large one mind you, something that would comfortably hang inside a coat/shirt or pocket. Ok, then, for whatever reason, it's dropped. 100, 200, years go by and there they are, 10 inches down, still on the now VERY corroded iron loop that was used. Along comes Mr. Detectorist just a swingin'.

He gets a fairly large hit but it appears to be iron. So.....he skips it. ;)

Makes one wonder, don't it. LOL

Yep in the real world that is a high probability.
The holed LC that my wife dug was laying above a chunck of iron, gave her a good hit on the F75. She dug it out not finding anything then she hit the iron with her spade. She pulled the iron out and filled her hole and I told her to check that loose dirt and sure enough there was the LC.
