I found a gold chain at work today. Stamped on the tag next to the clasp is 24K GB. I know what the 24K stands for but I am not sure about the GB. Thanks for any help
Thats about what I figured. Not that I have handled a lot of gold chains but when I picked it up it just didn't feel right. It still looks nice. I guess I will let my daughters fight over it. Thanks for the input.
Gold is really heavy. 24K is almost half again heavier than lead. Also soft enough that you can dig into it with your thumbnail.
Carry a couple of different small sinkers and you can check weight in the field (before you clean it<G>).
Lead is 11.7 Specific Gravity, gold is 19.2.
18K is still heavier than your lead sinker.<G>
12K will be a little lighter. Just an easy way to get your heart rate back down after finding something, or not.<G>
