Well, after spending a lot of time working the front yard and finding mostly 1900's era targets I decided to concentrate on the back yard. It's a very big yard and is adjacent to the town grange which includes a large pond. Unfortunately, a new septic drainage field was put in, and 80% of the yard has been disturbed. So I know there are targets that are forever out of my reach, but I'm hopeful that some previously unattainable ones are now at the surface. So far so good with a lot of interesting relics. Not shown in the pictures are numerous make up and compact containers and lip stick tubes. I believe some of the social activities from the grange may have crossed over to this property. I had to dig every target because many of them were very close to the surface.

As you can see not a lot for coins other than a very worn IH.

My favorite by far is the Egyptian medal. Does anyone have an idea as to its age? I'm thinking early 1900's, I believe there was a time, just as they were uncovering King Tut's tomb that jewelry and such with an Egyptian theme was in vogue. It has no makers mark that I can find.

The big round thing that sort of looks like a lid, I feel like I should know what it is. Can someone help me out?

Can anyone determine a date on either the large or small pins?

Thanks for looking,

Jai

Nice Finds! interesting Sphinx Item!

Those are some very cool finds... Congrat :icon_thumright:s

In addition to be some really nice finds, your pics are super! What camera are you using?

I wonder if the Egyptian item is a name pendent. It oblong thing appears to be a hair piece that a woman would use a small wooden dowel to hold it in the hair.

What is the roundish thing that sort of looks like a hand held fan? That is very interesting.

nice IH!!!!! MR TUFF

I'm using a somewhat older digital camera, the 6.1MP Kodak Easyshare DX7630. It has a macro/flower setting that I use for the close up shots, that along with the flash let's me get the detail.

The other part is the editing. I take the pictures at 6.1MP which allows for the close up detail. Then I use microsoft picture manager to crop the pictures as close to the items as possible. Then I resize using picture editor, selecting the Predefined width X height of "Document - Large (1024 X 762). This then gets the file size down so you can upload it to almost every forum, but since you start with the high res picture you're able to display some decent resolution.

I don't think it is a name pendent, I was able to google image search around for "old egyptian medallion" and found another detectorist with a website who found the exact same one. There is no noticiable difference between ours. The interesting thing is that this person is from Australia, and has also been to Canada. I'm in Connecticut, so I'm trying to figure out where this medallion may have been manufactured. I haven't had any luck contacting the person.

Here's a link to his site.

The picture is identical, however the details between mine and his seem different. Also, the two "horns" on mine seem to go up and around the ball more than his. I've attached a picture of his.

As far as the round fan looking thing, I would love to know what it is as well. It looks like it was a cover to something. I feel like I should know what it is. One thing that comes to mind, today you can get a plastic case for your fishing weights that is circular and you rotate the top plastic part to an opening on the bottom part to get access to what fishing weight you want. I wonder if this is something like that.

It would not rotate, if you look there are 2 rivets. Possible something from a car engine

Many differences between yours and his! The basic design is the same, but, I am thinking these may have been hand tooled. Look closely at the cats, they are different.......the guy's 'wrap' design is totally different, the fingers are not the same.......etc. etc. The origin is going to be interesting!!

Edit: Just noticing the back.....the bird at the bottom is in the 4th zig-zag on yours, the 3rd on his. Other differences, but, this was the most prominent.

You know what, you are correct, just about every portion of the design is slightly different in some way, some more than others. I spent about an hour flipping back and forth between the two sets of pictures. It is an identical motif, but totally different impressions.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Any thoughts on an origin, why they are the same motif but different impressions?

The round fan like object looks like the contact plate from a old flashlight. The lead object looks like a such from an old hand pump....

You may have it on the contact plate, however, the lead wheel appears to be the flywheel from a toy car or similar....note the gearing at the axle point.

I spent about 2 hours trying to find anything about the Medallion but couldn't find anything. I will continue to look when I have some free time. It is interesting that you found it here in CT.

Very cool finds there Jaichim24 with the Egyptian medal, if I remember correctly King Tut's Tomb was discovered in 1921. The medal that you found certainly seems much older that the other one you posted. I have included these for reference.

Your Egyptian medallion was given away in 1949 as a premium of The Romance of Helen Trent radio program, sponsored by Kolynos tooth powder and toothpaste.
