Posted a video of the finds so far from these fields. BEWARE MY WIFES POTTY MOUTH (F-BOMB) AROUND THE 1:35 AREA. Poor thing was sick of digging big iron. lol. But she was rewarded with the half.

This site has been stingy but finally got a sliver of silver from this very old dwelling plantation site to confirm the era. We dug at least 100 lead balls of varying calibers here. Yet only a dozen and a half buttons and maybe another couple dozen other relics. A newer homesite on the other end of the large field produced some modern silver. My wife scored a Franklin half there. I concentrated on the old site today with 18Khz freq. Lower freq will not penetrate the soil - even 12 just gives crackles on anything more than a few inches deep. VERY harsh soil conditions here. I even went into the expert section of the freq and bumped it up as far as it would go.

Oxbowbarefoot nailed the ID. Its a pine tree, NOE 2. Thats terrific, thank you. The 6 is visible and I can see some very faint branches. Here's the whole coin below.

Here are the modern silver finds. At the newer homesite I popped out a 3 ringer. Can count on one hand how many of these I've ever found.

Man that cut mass silver is amazing!, very cool if ya found the rest of it

Man I love the stuff you dig up brother. I'll see if I can figure out what you have. What a spot

Silver and great relic day :occasion14:

Man oh man Gary!!
That cut mass, is just killer!!
There is no better detector out there for the kind of hunting we do. Very versatile. .
Congrats.

How could you date the cut silver?

The Mass silver was minted from 1653 to 1682.
Willow Tree 1653-1660
Oak Tree 1660-1667
Pine Tree 1667-1682
But these coins go by 1652 which is when I believe the Mass Court ordered them to be minted. I actually believe some of the Oak tree coinage goes by 1662. Don't have my books with me

Whoa yeah! All you need now is a couple of lobstas and a Wachusett beer and you got yourself a New England ho-down. Amazing cut silver and that buckle is right in that time period as well. Nice blowhole button - I've never found one.
Congrats on a killer hunt!

If it's gonna be cut, it might as well be mass silver! Feel free to make yourself a T-shirt with that on it... I'll give you a discount. :)

I could have confirmed the age because basically everything in the relics pic is too old to dig at my sites.

Outstanding early finds!! You ever head down to Virginia? I'm obsessed with Accomac and Northampton counties lately. I'm reading the Whitelaw book now and I am tempted to abandon the "western shore" and head across the bridge for a week.

Ugh oh you got Abe cranked-up on Mass silver!!

Ahab,

The story I heard was the year used was because England had banned coins being struck in the US colonies after that date....which explains the backdating of these coins....but yeah odds are they were all minted during the late 1600's.

Yes, we have one set of fields down in Northampton which produced 19 Spanish silvers and also an old friend dug a 1/4 cut of a Mass silver there as well. Northampton goes back to about 1620.
