Just finished my 2nd nickel bag. Sadly, no Buffalo yet (main reason I'm sorting these), but did find my 2nd war nickel:

Also found this in the first handful

The shine caught my eye, being new to nickels (and this all, really) I set it aside to replace the 81 I had pulled for my booklet. Sitting there though, the more I looked the weirder it got, as the bust looked rather matte, compared to the rest. My first thought was that someone had tried polishing it, or something weird, never occured to me to look at the mint mark. Then I found this one and everything clicked...

Sad thing is, I look for the S marks just because. Well, best of luck hunting everyone!

What's with the 1981 and 2006? Sorry, I'm kinda a noob.

Impaired proofs

I was/am in the same boat bud. I pulled the 81 cause of the shine, then noticed the S mint mark after finding the 06, so figured they were both proofs... As RCS was kind enough to point out, they phrase is "impaired proof" since they have been damaged while in circulation. Though, I find it peculiar that only the bust and Monticello have been damaged, the rest still has like a mirror finish. Then again, wtf do I know, when I first pulled it I thought someone tried polishing it so :-p

I keep all the impaired nickel proofs I find too! I don't on the clad half proofs, but do all other denominations. They're fun to find!
