2nd trip to cellar hole... silver!

Had some luck second time around at a cellar hole... a buckle, 2 watches, and a coin silver spoon made by a silversmith from Cazenovia, NY named Joab Gillett... his stuff dates from 1810-1831.. so that silver spoon could be 200 years old... it still has the owners initials (MHP) engraved in the handle.

That's a beautiful find--and great that you dug it undamaged. I have now dug two silver spoons...or rather 1 1/2 silver spoons. The plow does awful things to those. It's really rare to see one come up undamaged.

Sorry I can't give you a more close-up pic of the spoon.. I don't have a macro on my camera. The name Gillett is stamped on the back of the handle... I typed the name in google and it came up a silversmith from Cazenovia, NY... which is just a few miles from where the spoon was dug. The spoon was standing on end about 6 inches down ... my Garrett Ace 250 with 4" sniper coil picked it right up amongst all the junk inside the cellar hole..
