After today's hunt you may say that 1+1+1=4, three coins totaling 4 cents.
First coin turned out to be a toasty 2-cent piece. Many horseshoes were dug, at least 7 on the day, all different.

Most of these came from a pumpkin field search that also yielded a lead seal with starburst, a lantern part, and a silver charm.

4 shotgun headstamps, a brass cartridge and an older lead bullet were dug.

Found one button; it's very brittle and appears to be of lead or pewter.

Finally meandered down to the edge of a cornfield and target after target came up, the first being an LC from the 1820s, followed by another one from 1818. Other finds at that field edge were two iron rings, and square nail, an irregular piece of lead, and a leather fitting with 4 rivets.

Agreed, but yours was holier! :happysmiley:

Great hunt, great finds, your on fire!

Your 2-center had a clear date, mine a corroded date that yielded only "18__"; farm fields here are tough on coins.

Thanks treblehunter! It continued today. Post on the way.

Hey McD...looks like you had a great day! Congrats on your awesome finds...while I have yet to unearth a 2 center, I took a good hunting buddy to one of my best spots and turned him loose...I mean, I had already hunted it twice so there should be nothing there...right!? so he pops out a STUNNING 2 center (which I posted for him here)...I was happy AND bummed...you know the feeling, I'm sure..lol..congrats on a fine day McD..ddf

Sweet finds!! I think I got a 1818 LC but, I know I definitely don't have a 2 Center, Congrats!!

Congrats on pulling all those keepers from the pumpkin patch McCDig, You didn't happen to seen Linus out there did you?

Thx L-D! Not Linus, not his blanket, and no one Snoopin' around. Pretty much out there solo huntin'. Looks like a couple Club members may join me here. I've only hunted portions of two fields. There are many cultivated fields here and I have until planting season to hunt.

Yep, know exactly how you felt. Brought a good detectorist to a site I'd been hunting and he found a way to pull some old silvers. I think it evens out in the end. Most important part of detecting is to just get out there.

The best 2-cent piece I ever dug was my first and that was in Patterson Park. It was down deep and very green with almost no corrosion. I had no idea what I had.

I know the feeling. Something about finding the coins in the right places. I mean I have some VERY good examples I found waaaaay back when. But, even though they were closer to the time they had been made, they weren't THAT close. ;)

Check 'em out if you have a moment.
