Charlestown, Indiana
Detector(s) used
Minelab GPZ 7000, Minelab CTX 3030, Minelab Gold Monster 1000, Garrett Propointer AT, and Gold Duster drywasher
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I’ve rented a fishing cottage on Sebastion River (where it forks north and south) for February, March, and April 2019. I’m taking my boat, fishing gear, and detector (CTX 3030). Plan on splitting my time between the 2 hobbies.
I’m a rookie beach hunter and would appreciate any tips (I’ve been scouring the web for tips and ideas, but welcome any additional advice). I plan on hitting all the obvious spots (beaches) but I also want to see what I can find on the islands (not state park land) and along the Sebastian river. My cottage sits on almost 3 acres and the river runs right alongside it. It’s about a 1/2 mile from the Indian River Lagoon.
Since I’ll be there for a while , I’m hoping to get to know some local diggers. If you’re a local and you’re interested in a new “Diggin’ Buddy”, let me know. I wouldn’t mind meeting a new fishing partner too. Gonna get me some monster Snook, Tarpon, Reds and Grouper.

I can’t wait!

I know this sounds bad, but I’m praying for a big storm while I’m there.
...Does that make me a bad person? lol

I’m jealous! I want to rent a cottage in Fl for 3 months in the winter and do nothing but fish and md! Sounds like a dream! Don’t ruin it by wishing for a big storm, but I get it! Doesn’t make you a bad person, lol

Sounds like a great trip. Good luck.

I lived in the area for 4 years and back then and I had a Old White MD. I am going back to Sebastian March 2019 with my Fisher CZ-21 and can't want to hit the low tide. PM me and we can get together.

Wabasso beach near Sebastian inlet is the place to go if looking for 1715 Spanish treasure. But everyone goes there to "get rich". This a local MD club in the area hit those beaches everyday. You might find some recently lost jewelry, but Spanish treasure is most unlikely. The only time anything good is found here anymore is after a good northeast storm that we get in November, or a good close hurricane.

If you are planning to MD and of the State Parks ALWAYS go the the ranger's office and ask. I never been told "No" just the rules of when and where. Complete a form and some parks have a small fee but most don't.

Ever since the Hurricanes of 2004 they have dumped sand on every part of the Treasure Coast from Melbourne Beach, thru Sebastian Inlet and Wabasso, all the way to Vero Beach. Ft Pierce area they have replaced the sand at least four times there since 2004

I heard that Mel Fisher group no long controls this part of Florida's salvage operations but not 100% sure and maybe someone else does. I not sure if you can now can go into the waters there to MD. Maybe someone else may knows?

Good Luck!

Cool. I’ll message you closer to the day I’m leaving. Thanks Steve.

...thanks for the well wishes and info guys.

I'll be in the Sebastian area from March 05 thru March 20, 2019. I'm planning on detecting the beaches there for 15 straight days. I've detected that area in the past but only for a few days at a time. I'm planning on attending the one day seeded hunt in Wabasso on March 09 that is put on by the local metal detecting club the TCAS, (Treasure Coast Archeological Society). I'm hoping also while I'm there for a storm like a "Noreaster" to make some cuts in the sand which might increase the chances of finding some "old" stuff. Anybody interested in joining me on the beach send me a PM. Merry Christmas to everyone. Looks like snow headed my way here in Colorado.

Sounds like a great vacation Have fun!!!!!!

Awesome vacation plans, Good Luck! :occasion14:

Great plans. Two other areas you might consider are Bonsteel park aka half reale park north if Sebastian Inlet. The other for relics (but who knows) is on the south fork of the sebastian river. It us an old foundation of a house built by a local physician or army officer. Ill try and find the story. Later it was used by smugglers. It’s private but owners name from ircpa.org. Good luck.

I'm new to this, and only have a very cheap MD, but I'll be down there next month. I'm headed to the Bahamas for a 4 day cruise from Port Canaveral, then staying on the space coast about an hour north of Sebastian. (Cocoa Beach) We plan on heading to Sebastian for hunting, so maybe we'll see you there! We are staying through the 20th. Woops!! I am editing this, just noticed you;ll be there in March. Good luck and have fun!

I’m on the Treasure Coast in Florida and the VERY FIRST TARGET I dug was a 400 year old bronze ship spike from the Honduran “St Martin” that went down in 1618. I had the find identified by the McLarty Treasure Museum, as well as local professional treasure hunter, Mike Blanchard.
I’m extremely happy to have found an artifact like this! I LOVE my CTX 3030. I’m finding pieces of iron the size of a needle down 16 inches in wet sand with the coil submerged in the saltwater surf!
