Hello all,,,
As some of you may know I have been doing a lot of detecting with my friend Gary and also been kinda putting the skunk on em lately... Well,,, let me tell you, he must have gotten super mad today, because he ripped me a new one... :) We both started the day out with a wheatie, and a few tokens a piece. He then says. "Hey Leon,,, come over here and take a look at this." I walk over to where he had a very small size plug, just a few inches deep, but you could see the rim of a big coin. I said, "WOW!!!, that looks like a silver dollar."

He then lifted it out from the hole and it was a 1886 Morgan dollar... We sit there looking like two kids in a candy store as I took a few pics... I told him last week, "Ya,,, I'm finding all these measly dimes, and your saving your luck up for the good ones." Sheesh....

After looking at this coin for a few he re-scanned the hole... (beep, beep) it was still sounding off like a cannon. He moved a little of the dirt around and out pops two more rims of some big coins...

He carefully picked the other two up, and sure enough, it was two more Morgans... I said,," You luck dog... :).

The first coin recovered was in the best condition out of all of them and it was the 1886. Then out came the 1879, and the 1889. I got to tell ya,, I'm not going to kid him about getting skunked ever again... He just put my whole month to shame... :)

Hope ya all enjoy looking, I know I sure did... I think I was more excited about the find than he was...

Moma's calling me for supper, so I'll post my meager little finds later...
Good luck all, & Happy hunting~

Well that doesn't just happen every day!!!

Congrats on the amazing find!!!!

Thank you all very much!
I sent Gary the link to this page and I'm sure he has checked it out. I haven't talked to him since I made the post though. He's new to the computer and is just now figuring things out. He said he didn't like forums. but we'll see what we can do about getting him to join this one,,, after all, this is not just another forum,,, this is TreasureNet... :)

Now, let me see if I can respond to a few of these replies without getting too confused... :)

I think my dfx would have exploded the sound would have been so loud! I would of probably thought it was a pop can... :D Fantastic...
Believe me,, we hit the area pretty hard after that. Also, we have been over this area many times in the past. He said that he has probably hit that target a dozens times and didn't dig it because it sounded like a trashcan lid. I think he was in the "Drastic Measure's Mode" trying to put the skunk on me, as I had been doing to him lately. Sure work for him... :)

That is friggin' phenomenal, fantastic, a remarkable find.

Most likely a pocket coin spill, however, when ya see 3 of a kind like that, first thing that comes to mind, "its a clue to a bigger coin spill".

Maybe I'm just over reacting, but if it was me, I'd start making circles outward from where you found those and cover every inch until you're satisfied. Nice going.............Rich

:o :o :o :o :o :o :oWow! Some kid put those there and forgot to retrieve them! How else do you lose three?

Wow, three. Can't believe three were lost like that. Was this in a plowed field or a yard? GO back! There are probably more out there in the vicinity. Good luck...
They were found in one of the local parks here in town. Open area, pretty well traveled even today. We sat there and wondered the same thing, how in the world do you loose something like that and not notice it. These coins are fairly heavy, and loosing all three at once should have raise your belt loops by at least a few inches... My Ol'lady also said, it was probably a kid that stashed them and never came back ot retreive them, or cound't find them again? Only other thought I have is that some old detectorist decided he didn't need them anymore and wanted to make someones day. If so,, sure wish he/she would have left a note... lol

lol,, I hear ya.... He told me he has been detecting for over 26 years and had never dug a silver dollar until now... I guess all his luck, or ducks, finally got into one roll...

That is clean outta sight!!

I was going to ask about the mintmarks, too. The 1889 in particular. CC would be, um, nice..
I'll have to get back to ya on the mint marks,,, I believe he told me one of them was an "O" mint mark, but I'm not sure which one...

Thanks again all...
I hope you all have enjoyed looking at this in credable site. As soon as I seen the first one,,, I had my camera out, so that I could share the find with all of you, I just wasn't ex-specting it to end up being so spectacular...

Good luck to all of us on finding such an awesome find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day, & Happy hunting~

Those definitely had to be lost not long ago being that they were in a park and coming out of the ground looking like that. Congrats on being the ones who found them!! A morgan dollar is a morgan dollar. Gotta' love that silver baby. 8) 8)

Leon,
You gotta be able to take as much as you dish out. ;) That's why I don't give anyone anything but sympathy if I do much better than they do. Only a matter of time before the tables are turned. But wow, Three Morgans! Very Sweet.

Bob

WOW! , I wish i had that kind of luck. The property i live on has a date stone 1853 on it. I think these poor farmers traded chickens and pigs for the staples needed in life.Because i haven't found doodly squat. I will search again when i get my MXT. I have just been finding foil and iron stuff. But i am using a Prizm IV and probably the MXT will just blow it away and i will get some neat finds....
lol,,, I wish I had that kind of luck myself... ;D Also, I'm sure there's got to be a few keepers in there somewhere. Good luck with the new machine,,,
Happy hunting all, & Have a great day...
