I posted this in the what is it forum as well. I believe its a three ring bullet, but it has a hole through it. Also the end that should be open has been pushed together. I found it very close to some Civil War activity. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

That's pretty neat it's definitely a "three ringer" Minie ball.
Almost looks as though that one was being worn for some reason..
No telling what that reason might have been

Thanks GatorBoy. It has been shot I believe. Its in rough shape. Im like you if it was used for a necklace, wonder why it was such a rough bullet? However it could have been found then lost by someone years later who put the hole in it.

GatorBoy, three ringers were only used by the Union correct?

Or... Stuck in some soldiers canteen or something and kept for a good luck charm

I heard about people who have used 3 ringers as fishing sinkers, maybe thats it

Thanks again GatorBoy. Its interesting to think about the story behind it.

That's a good possibly cjon

I could be wrong, but it could have been used for a fishing sinker. They used what they had. :)
