EDIT: Scroll down if you just want to see the Franklin half.
Here is my weekend recap....you will see the answer to my title riddle further down.
I started out Saturday morning at one of my early sites. I have been pounding this site since 2012, but the farmer had recently plowed, and didn't plant yet. Right off the bat, 25 yards into the field I get a strong signal, look down and see this.

My first thought was Copper! Right on the surface! This is gonna be a good hunt!
Well that was pretty much the highlight of the hunt. Instead of a copper it was a large button that somehow dodged the coil for 8 years. Here is the take from the colonial phase of my weekend.

The little watch winder was interesting as it was similar to a larger one I found on another site years ago.

After three hours swinging and stumbling over a lumpy plowed field with very few breaks to dig a target, I got in touch with my buddy Nick to see about getting together to detect his 100 year old farm house. This is a large farm house with a wrap around porch and a lot of ground around it. I thought it would be loaded, he didn't expect to find anything.
I gave Nick a crash course on my back-up machine, a Fisher F75. Here he is going to town with it.

After several hours of digging pennies and modern dimes, I got a solid 97 in all directions on my XP Deus. I called Nick over and said this might be a half dollar. For once I didn't jinx myself.

Seeing that it was a silver half, I plucked it from the dirt fully expecting to see a Walker. But no, it's a Franklin half!

It's been over 30 years since I found one of these. This is only my third one. I have found three Barber halves and about a dozen Walkers since I last found one of these.
Here are the two silver founding fathers

And here is the silver with the hole in it
