For those who can't ascertain the query due to the photo quality, the OP is wondering about the double stamped date. Sag has the advertisement and I'm sure he'll post it. The double stamped half was offered by third-party marketers. It carries no additional value.
If I am reading correctly the one you featured is 1980 mine is a 1983 Sophie many yrs were made ?
Wow, this got interesting. Wondering how many they moved, and what was their plating cost? Do you all know what years they were offered? Government actually makes out with the sales tax, then profit taxes. And most aren't circulated after.
I know. That's why I stated sales tax and tax on the profit. Tax here is profit. 1000 percent is good profit! The government didn't make any profit as they weren't offered by the government. The third-party marketers bought half dollars at face value; defaced the coin; and then marketed them as a tribute to Kennedy.

So how many can be plated with an ounce of 24kt. I would think they use gold leaf.
I'm guessing the gold plating is only worth a couple of cents extra?I think someone said they used like 50 micrograms of gold, which is 1.60753733 × 10[SUP]-6
troy oz. of gold.

11,212. Keep stacking! LolI used to have a stack of these in my "cool but not worth much" pile. I wonder how many I would have to have in order to even get 1/16th oz of gold...
