Well, I called my bank yesterday about 2 boxes I ordered and they were not do in till Wednesday. So, i figured on my way to work today I would return a few and get a box of nickels. On the way to return a tea container full of nickels and dimes flipped over in my car, coins are friggin everywhere! :o

Next I stopped by one of my favorite banks for nickels, I fiqured Id order a box of halves while i was there. Well one of the tellers runs over to me and says your havles have been sitting here for weeks. I say ooooo oook, Ill take them. :P

I went through half the box, nearly every roll has silver, so far many 64's, frankies, 40 %ers, and proofs. ;D

After going through half the box and driving to work, I decided to return some of the coins as the banks near work, as they close at noon. Anyway, found anothr 40%er and a war nickel while pouring change into the machine. Ill post totals and pics later today.

Searcher.

Very good finds and congrats. lLoking forward to the pics.

Keep in mind there's nothing special about 2001 P & D halves. It was starting in 02, the halves were not released for general circulation; rather only in mint & proof sets and (at a premium) in rolls to collectors.

Regardless, great haul !

Very nice box.

So I can mark it on the tracking list, was the 1979-S a filled S or a clear S?

Very nice finds, my boxes have been horrible all week long. Keep at it.
Best Rgards, Ray

Heres some pics, I put down saranwrap, does not appear to be any real scratches or cleaning marks on the coins.

oops here are the rest of the pics. Notice the one reverse that is the 1979 S and it looks like a
letter is missing, the "A" in dollar. Any ideas on what that can be?

Thanks,

The missing "a" in "Dollar" is the result of a grease-filled die, a mint error. Perhaps the mint rejected the coin as impaired, below collector's grade, and therefore released it into circulation, which is how it wound up in your possession. In any event, this type of mint error is uncommon in half dollars and your coin is therefore more valuable as a result. It's a double keeper - a proof/mint error. Probable value is at least $10. Lucky you, and a damned good box to boot.
