Last Friday I got super lucky and dug my first George Washington Inaugural button at a colonial/pioneer site in the park woods. I only spent 30 minutes at the site on Friday as I sort of freaked out when I found the GWI button.

I made it back on Monday during my lunch break, super anxious to see what else was there. First hole, a nice easy 21/21 signal on the Nox.

Cool, another GWI button, but just a frag. Then another perfect 21 signal and blood pressure shooting sky high...

Oh, man exact size as a GWI, but just a big dandy.

Well of course I had to go back Tuesday.

Man, those big tombacs are heart breakers.

Well, not much to do on Wednesday, why not another lunch hour hike.

Things were slowing down, but contacted some hunting buddies on meeting up there for yet another hunt, SteveInPa was interested and we met up at the site this afternoon. I found a couple more quick flat buttons, then Steve yells over that he just dug an old copper.

Ended up being a 1700’s NJ State Copper! Very cool, Steve’s day is made! I then get a 21/39, 21/-8, 21/15 signal, really deep and pinpointed small. The signal was super jumpy, thought there was a good chance that it would be a chunk of old rusty iron, but decided to dig it, took 2 scoops, about 12” deep.

Oh, almost forgot. I also got my first Cut Spanish!

Made a deal with Steve to trade the GWI frag

for one of his Pistareens. I’m leaning to the Michael Jordan option.

Good luck out there!!

When you invited me I was hoping that there would be one more GW in the dirt. Well there was. Congrats on finding another. It was a privilege just to hold a freshly dug button like that.

Wow, that's amazing you found another. I would hit that spot for a long time to come searching for more!

Those buttons are beautiful big congrats.

Really neat to see great finds coming from our area. Thats an old site there. Soil was kind to those items also.

I spent some years tracking down sites like that off of old maps. And they do pay off when you find them.

That's some awesome finds!!! I'd dig every signal on that site!!!

Thx Steve! Great job sniffing out the copper. Unusual mix of finds there, some more coins have to be deep down. I’m going to try a higher recovery speed on the Nox and see how that works with all the iron.

Wow, what a great collection of buttons from that site, (and the coins aren't bad either) ! Those hunts just had to be a thrill.

Speechless. 2.5 GWI's. I'll say it there are probably a few more there! Insane! Congrats on it all!

Dang!!!! What a great site!

Congratulations on all those beautiful button saves. Nice Spanish also.

UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!!!!! :occasion14:

They say these GW buttons came in a set of four. How true this is, I don't know...but if it is there is at least one more hiding there. When I found mine I hammered that spot and all I ever found was the lone GW. I would back go there with a machete, saw and small coil if it were me.

Thx! We discussed a game plan to open up some more swingable ground, but won’t be easy.

Thx Jer! I am still shocked that these GWI’s are coming out of our corner of the state.

Thx! It’s really close to my work and an easy hike, so I plan to thoroughly hit it, especially next winter when the growth is down.

Both of the complete buttons where really deep, like 12”. That’s sort of the max depth with my 11” coil. There are a lot of old nails and iron in the dirt as well. May be worth digging out all the substantial iron signals one day and see what else is down there.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

You keep finding those buttons and they'll be so common that they won't be a banner find anymore! :laughing7::icon_thumleft:

Here is my rough 1787 New Jersey Copper. Why couldn't it have been like one of the buttons you dug :dontknow:
