Last Friday I got super lucky and dug my first George Washington Inaugural button at a colonial/pioneer site in the park woods. I only spent 30 minutes at the site on Friday as I sort of freaked out when I found the GWI button.

I made it back on Monday during my lunch break, super anxious to see what else was there. First hole, a nice easy 21/21 signal on the Nox.

Cool, another GWI button, but just a frag. Then another perfect 21 signal and blood pressure shooting sky high...

Oh, man exact size as a GWI, but just a big dandy.

Well, not much to do on Wednesday, why not another lunch hour hike.

Things were slowing down, but contacted some hunting buddies on meeting up there for yet another hunt, SteveInPa was interested and we met up at the site this afternoon. I found a couple more quick flat buttons, then Steve yells over that he just dug an old copper.

Ended up being a 1700’s NJ State Copper! Very cool, Steve’s day is made! I then get a 21/39, 21/-8, 21/15 signal, really deep and pinpointed small. The signal was super jumpy, thought there was a good chance that it would be a chunk of old rusty iron, but decided to dig it, took 2 scoops, about 12” deep.

Here’s today’s handful.

Oh, almost forgot. I also got my first Cut Spanish!

Made a deal with Steve to trade the GWI frag

for one of his Pistareens. I’m leaning to the Michael Jordan option.

Good luck out there!!

Amazing luck! Congratulations!

That site is really paying off. Congrats on all the great finds.

Awesome. Seems the GW buttons show up often for certain people in certain locations while others who also hunt early sites cant sniff a button of any historical significance :BangHead::occasion14:

Crazy, crazy site there! You guys are tearing it up lately. Keep at it! Congrats Thad.

2.5 GW Buttons = more to find:metaldetector:

Congratulations! Those are beautiful little relics of America’s history!

Awesome site, I agree I would be there non-stop digging everything, that's a great haul you've made there, nice GW's, congrats on all

GW button heaven

No way! 2 GW buttons! Congrats! :icon_thumleft: What are the odds of that happening? Oh yeah.... nice cut Spanish too! lol

Update to this site/thread:
3 additional attempts at this site. Tried some techniques for hunting adjacent to the metal fence, no luck with a couple detectors. Tried adjusting recovery speed on the Nox, created high tone false iron targets all over. Tried adjusting iron bias up, eliminated all repeatable targets. Went back to basically factory settings and found a few more deep buttons and a really tiny tombac spoon handle.

That's some awesome digs and history you have found! I drool over these post of such amazing Colonial relics. Congrats and I hope this site continues to produce.
