Troy Shadow X5, Minelab Musketeer Advantage
Ok I bought a used Minelab Advantage Musketeer for $200. I bought it to be my backup to my backup. I had read some good reviews on it and said, "why not?" I tried it this morning at the place I got the two silver rosies and silver ring at last week. I used fixed GB in an area that has only clad for the most part just to get used to the sound of coins. After I knew the sound I moved over to the area that has produced silver and manually ground balanced it and went to work. I must say I'm impressed with this units depth and disc abilities. Barely any loss of depth with the disc cranked up there to dig just copper pennies, dimes, and quarters. I wound up with Two 63' rosies, a 62 quarter, a silver religious medal and a perfect attendance pin. The quarter and a dime in the same hole. Gotta love that.I'm going to modify it to put the control housing under the armrest. A bit on the heavy side but not too bad. I was there approx 3 hours. Gotta save my energy for tomorrows relic hunt. We have a new soy field to try out. Good luck all and happy hunting.

Well I am impressed. I have never used the Musketeer but it looks just like my Sovereign set up. I know the differences in the machines. Was this an area that you had used other machines on? I am talking about the specific ground covered. Also, how deep were your finds? Great job.

Hi and yes I did go over the area that produced the silver in one direction last week with my X5. This week I went over it 45 degrees to the way I hunted it last week. I also was over this area years ago with my old White's detector. The depths I'd say were approx 3-8".
Take care, Mike

Doesn't silver come out of the ground looking sooooo purdy!!!

Cool, cool ,cool

Mike, I'm glad you got out with the Musky. I know it is a silver killer. Good finds!!! I know you are going to be impressed with the machineespecially for like you said the price range. It is just one of those machines nobody pays much attention to. I wish you best of luck Tomorrow on your hunt I would give it a try then too. You will be surprised just like everyone who gives them a try. I agree on the under the arm mount, but it's not to bad the way it is. Keep me informed on future finds.
I'll never sell mine.
Bill

They looked good coming out but on common silver I always give alittle bit of a baking soda rub to clean em up.

That brings up a great learning point for newbies. When you work a site with any metal detector, it pays to grid it out and work it in strips horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Coins lying in the ground at varying angles can be missed if you only hunt in one direction. Further, this insures that you are covering the entire area and increases the chances that your coil has passed over every square inch of an area that is being hunted. I have used this method hunting fields and wooded areas and it does work well. Of course it takes more time to hunt an area this way but what is the point of hunting an area if you aren't going to do it right and find what is there?

Take Care,

Jim
