They've just taken down the chiringuitos (beach bars) here on the southern coast of Spain for the winter so it's a great time to go over the areas where they stood for dropped coins that fell through the floor boards. I've had my detector, a Minelab Sovereign GT, for a few years now but haven't really used it much. Yesterday, however was particularly good, and I pulled out 40 euros (give or take a few cents), 2 pounds 20 pence and an old Spanish 100 peseta coin. Took about 4 hours so not a bad hourly rate. That's about double my previous records so I was quite happy. I've only been over one site and I think there's probably more there. I need to get my detector in better tune because there is so much garbage I have to set the discretion pretty high so am probably missing more of the 10 cent pieces. Without discretion on I get continuous non stop signal there are that many pulltabs, water bottle seals, wine bottle tops, aluminum foil, etc. etc. It's kind of gross actually how much trash is on these beaches.
I need to post up in another area for some tips on detector settings I guess.
