You guys are killing me as I'm sitting in the desert in Arizona for the winter. Phil Caldwell called today and we rememered old times. I really miss the winter relic hunting. Jim Baker and I dug many, many holes in frosty Missouri soil. We found our share of coins and relics in the Rolla, Cassville, and Crane creek area. One memorable hunt ended with me being too tired to hunt, then Jim dug a beautiful seated dime (1858 I think) and suddenly I was not so tired and grabbed the detector and hunted some more. Another time Jim dug a dice made from a 58cal bullet and weeks later we were headed for a hunt in Oklahoma and hit the same field. I said " let's stop here and dig the other dice and we'll have a set". Sure enough after a few minutes of hunting, I dug the other one. What are the odds? I wrote an article for Eastern/Western magazine about that hunt.
Just had our club hunt (Quartzsite Metal Detecting Club) yesterday. I managed 103 coins in the main hunt and 7 gold nuggets in the nugget hunt. Had 125 hunters, down this month since some people go back North for Christmas. Our January club hunt is expected to have a couple hundred turnout. Hey Max, see you there........
be back in the spring..............................Loyd

Hey Lloyd, Phil is a really good friend of mine. I admire him a lot and he has told me several stories over the years. He mentions you quite often. Keep in touch and good luck= digging! Tim

I joined your yahoo group but was wondering if there was any more info I could find? I recently moved halfway across our country to the Branson area - I've hit a few parks, but know little to nothing about the history of this area to determine a good spot to hunt.

There are way too many rocks out here, guys. Did Missouri miss a shipment or two of topsoil way back when?

anyway, whats the deal with getting linked up with your group - dues? just show up unannounced? How quickly after showing up can I beg and plead for help using my detectors? (as in, how many minutes is considered polite to wait before asking for help outside?)

I've made some friends here in town with deep family roots - mostly agricultural families who said I can check their land, but wont find nothing but nails, shoes, maybe a busted blade from a plow or something.

My eastern instincts tell me to check the peak of every foothill (mountain?!) I can find, but everything here seems so manicured - like its already been picked clean as clean can be.

We would love to have you? You should have gotten some additional information when you signed up or Yahoo... but if not, just go to the files section and look for visitor packet. That should give you lots of information.

You really need to come. We have two guys in our club that are very active in the Branson area. I am sure they can fill you in.

Our meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 (networking time) 7pm meeting starts. Email me at livetoplay804@classicnet.net for some more information!

We look forward to you attending.
Chris

You seem to be looking at the glass half empty! Lot's and lots of history around here, last month I made CW finds from 7 counties here in SW Mo. Maybe you can make a meeting or two and see what we are finding!
