found this item same place i found a navy button 1802 ,does anyone know what this might be my first thought was a cow tag thanks for any help

It's old look at the style on the numbers. I've gotten stuff like that myself some you never know what they were to.

Could it be and old dog tag for the sailor, since you got the navy button nearby?

Looks like a bagage tag for a carriage or possibly a train.

Could be a tool check out tag. When i first got into the trades we were issued a shower curtain ring with a dozen brass tags with our # on them. When ever we took out a tool we had to keave a tag on the hook next to it so every one knew who had the tool. Tags looked the same as that. cladius.
