these finds came from about 2 hours at an old farm house today. I'm not sure about the markings in the ring but I'm sure its plated, but looks nice (Jim?) Also, maybe Dan if you can tell me what the Fuld's book says on that token would be much obliged. Found what I believe is a 'I' Infantry civil war era cuff button? along with 3 other old buttons, one with a crown on the back ( chime in if you know about that) I cleaned up the shield nickel, just because I cant stand the way they look. The first pic is right out of the ground. the second pic is just after running water over it. the third pic is after about 2 hours of Worcestershire and baking soda, and I like the way they turn out. anyway, thanks for looking all, HH.

Nice finds! I would be happy to find that in a year. I am running out of places to go, nothing but strip malls, 7-11's and gas stations down here anymore.

Killer finds bro! :headbang: Man, that Minelab is treating you right. Sweet shield nic and token!! Big congrats on the Infantry button as well as the the other buttons. WTG :hello2:

Man, I love that civil war token. That is cool. :headbang: The ring is gold plated. 1/40th amount of gold plating and the other letters stand for Roll Gold Plated. R. G. P. That Infantry button is nice too. And an old shield nickel to boot. Nice nabs. Old yards are fun. Let us know when ya find some more info on the token. Love those things.

Really nice old finds Josh, the token is sweet. Cool buttons and so close on that ring, and congrats on another old shield nickel! Keep bringin 'em, I tweaked my back at work lol, I won't be digging any time soon. ffd

Man PG, what a great day of hunting!! I love that infantry button, I have found a few Civil War era buttons, but never one with a lettered shield. The token is a R4, which is pretty good and there is only one variety listed for that token. Nice find!! Keep it up, I love seeing your finds!!! Hh dan

Great finds!! Congrats on the shield nickle, old buttons and token :headbang:

Looks like an excellent two hours to me. :hello2: Love the "I" button, token and shield nickel. Congrats on all the relics too, J. :icon_thumleft:

Awesome Griff! Jim hit it on the head. Rolled Gold plate, and a beauty of an infantry button.
Nice digs all the way around! :headbang:

Excellent finds! I have only found one shield nickel in 36 years of hunting. Keep up the good work!

congrats on the shield and the eagle I!

Thats a great hunt for Michigan, congrats.

thanks everyone.....here's a pic of the place where i found these from an 1874 drawing. the house on the left is gone but you can see a little of the foundation of it.

Cool picture you added Griff! Where do you find drawings of old places like that? :dontknow: I would love to find some drawings of old homesteads in my area. Good stuff man! Funny how all of those finds were in the same general area.

That photo is a great addition to this post, sweet diagram J!

the drawing came from an 1874 plat map book that I have on cd (thanks Jim C.) It's only Jackson co., but I'm sure they have them for other counties too. The drawings are amazingly accurate, and I take copies to the places when I ask for permission and give them to the home owner. A lot of times they have seen them or even have a copy, but most of the times they are thrilled to see them.

Hey Griff,

Man, those are some cool finds. I too have a token book.

Here is some info of the one that you found.

1863 Civil War Token

Reverse is Die 1183. Reverse is the side with the date and eagle on it.

Blackman and Dibble in Adrian, MI

The rarity is R4, which means that the were between 200 & 499 produced. Who knows how many are around...thats anyones guess.

Also, token was struck by Alexander Gleason.

Last, the token's value is listed as the following:

$9 in Very Good
$25 in Very Fine
$50 in Extra Fine
$75 in Uncirculated

Again, nice find.
