I'm a 1715 Salvor normaly, but with all this bad weather offshore I decided to hunt my grandparents property for something to do. In the last 2 weeks i've found 8 buttons, but today was the best day so far. I got a nice F7 Spanish button first, then 3 plain buttons in the same geeneral area. At this point my day was more than made so I decided to recheck my first area and see if i missed anything. I went through from a different direction to see what would happen and then "Bam!" I got a nice hit. I then dug a nice 1812 light artillery 1st button. My finds for the last 2 weeks are. Tons of iron cut nails, a bunch of musket balls, parts to a musket, a broken buckle, a nice silver buckle, a cool lock, some china, and 8 buttons from the 1812 range. I'm one happy camper, but I still mist the 1715 fleet diving and hunting.

Re: 5 button day....

I love the two colonial shoe buckes. That silver one is a banner find in its own right.

But the collection of buttons is really fantastic. All early 1800s. You got yourself a muster site there, and those are some sweet finds.

This is a first rate post. Please, feel free to detect and post your finds anytime you can't dive! :headbang:

Cheers,

Buckles

Re: 5 button day....

I agree the silver buckle is a banner find and the buttons add to the steller hunt!

Re: 5 button day....

I am loving those Colonial shoe buckles. The silver one is definitely a Banner find. You are hunting a great Colonial site there. Keep digging and posting!

Re: 5 button day....

Amazing buttons! I dug my first 2nd Reg Artillery button about a week ago but no where near the condition of yours! Gotta love that sandy soil!

Re: 5 button day....

Holy smokes!!!!That is phenomenal!!! :notworthy:

Your "China",is actually early transfer ware, and a huge age indicator of a potential good site

Re: 5 button day....

:o Man O man you found some Great stuff ! That's the way to do it , great buckles , button finds are some of the best condition posted on T Net , & that's a sweet Brown Bess butt plate .. see any engraving on the top of the butt plate ? Killer hunt 8) 8) 8) dawg

Nice age range on that site. Looks like the latest stuff is 1830s-40s

Beautiful buckle. Keep us posted on your progress.

Re: 5 button day....

Some very nice relics there! Quite an interesting assortment too - late colonial era shoe buckles, a Spanish Fernando VII (1808 to 1814) military button, war of 1812 US buttons, 1820's/1830s Seminole War era buttons. You sound like you didn't expect to find this stuff at your grandparents, so I'm guessing that you don't have any idea what may have been on the property during the first quarter of the 19th century. My guess would be an early trading post or tavern that may have attracted troops from a nearby military installation, possibly a Spanish fort that was turned over to the Americans in 1821 when Spain ceded Florida to the US.

Re: 5 button day....

I figured I'd hit the site again today and I was very surspised that it yielded even more buttons. I got a total of nine more today as well as two musket balls. I'm so worn out I haven't really had time to get ID's or pictures of the new batch, but I'll have them up soon. Thanks everyone for looking.
