5 Silver Day—2 Seated

Hello everyone.
Went back to a 1950’s school that I have previously hunted a handful of times. I came across the school just a few years ago and assume that it has been hit many times over the years by others. I was hoping to find a couple of straggler Roosevelt dimes. Well, I found one of those( 1964 ) but was blown away when I also dug a 1875 seated dime along with a 1854 seated arrow quarter. I’m not sure what was on the property before the school was built but there are some old houses surrounding the school plus the area is rich in Civil War history. Also pulled a 1945 nickel, a silver religious medallion, 8 wheaties, a NY token, a couple of musket balls and about 50 clad coins.

A stellar bunch of finds - digging two Seated coins on one hunt is amazing !

It's up to you but I've straightened a lot of Silver / Copper coins and Tokens.
Just put the coin between two pieces of wood and put in a Vice or just hit the wood with a Hammer.

Unfortunately, while I was still hunting the site, a city police officer stopped by and told me that I would have to leave the site until I got permission from someone at the school to hunt there. He even ran a check of my drivers license. I was surprised by that as I never had an issue there and a police car actually drove by me on a previous hunt there w/o stopping in. He wasn’t a ball buster at all and we even had a short and pleasant conversation. I told him that I would follow up with someone for approval because I wanted to get back to hunting the grounds. This happened on Sunday, so I found out who the principal was and emailed her on Monday explaining the situation to her. Haven’t heard back from her yet.
Hope she gets back to me as I’m sure there are still some good finds waiting to be found.

I agree E-Trac. I always use Teak that I have lying around from my days working in the wood shop at Boston Whaler. A good HARD wood like Teak or something similar in the vice. Soft woods don't do the trick as good.

The picture is deceiving. The quarter is not bent it’s actually missing that portion of the coin. It’s as if the grooved edge and rim was grounded or rubbed off.
