Interesting finds. One thing I'm curious about is what does one do with live ammunition when it's found? Dangerous stuff, eh wot?

There's live ammunition sitting on every Wal Mart shelf in America. Not really that dangerous.

All those rounds were already fired!
I just inserted the round into the shell for a better example of a full size .50cal round

Yeah, but how many people go over to gardening, pick up a Leche and come back and bang on the ammunition? ;)

I really mean like when one finds a whole bullet in the ground. Especially old ones. How dangerous are these? Seems like something I would want to be careful digging. Then, after getting them, what does one do with them? Toss them in a can so they can "bang" around every time it's moved? :)

Inanimate objects are not "dangerous" Stupid people are. The liberals in this country have brainwashed people about the "evils" of firearms that they are are somehow viewed as evil themselves.
You can take a live round and throw it at a concrete wall as hard as you can and it most likely won't do anything. You can throw them into a fire and you will get a "phtttt!"noise and maybe a "pop" when they ignite. The most dangerous part of doing THIS will be the fragments of copper, and only for about ten feet.
Bullets without the support of the chamber of a firearm are just not that dangerous. The danger comes from when the "flash" of the powder (Modern gunpowder doesn't explode,it just ignites fast) while confined in the steel of a firearm chamber.

If you find live rounds and are still afraid that they are dangerous, soak them in WD40 for a a few weeks, (this will penetrate the primer, making it inert) and throw them in the trash.

Now granted I do find a lot of Armor Penetrating Incendiary Rounds that just hit the ground and don't explode, but you would need such extreme force to make one go off.. All the rounds we find are from P47 WWII fighter planes that bombed in my area here in S.Jersey.. Its fun and you never know what type of goodies you will find..

Well, when you have nothing to go by in the way of experience and are too lazy to look it up, whatcha expect? :)

I am not and have never been gun/ammo literate nor much interested. So, I asked. (shrug)

I am not now nor have I ever been part of the liberal/conservative/establishment. :)

But, if it has gunpowder or black powder involved, thank you, but, no thank you.

Should I just put them back in the hole and cover them up for the next (interested) MD-er? ;)

Thanks for the reply.

If you do find a live round and you want to keep it do like diggit said, just soak the round in wd-40 or almost any kind of penetrating oil will work fine!!!
