Here is a 6 1/4 inch Union County Indiana celt with some peck marks on the body, poll and bit polished, some old bit chips, and a few old plow strikes.

Still alot of peck marks on both sides.

The bit is in decent condition, some old chips and a plow strike just off the bit.

here you can see a plow strike on the poll end

Great looking celt. Congrats on the rescue dude!

That’s a nice one!

You don’t find to many that don’t show implement strikes these days.

All of mine show several strikes. I have been fortunate to find as many complete celts as I have broken parts.

Nice piece, good it stayed whole.

Very nice! Blade and body curvature suggest adz, although a wide example........

its a celt, the bit is centered. good observation.

It looks like it was pecked AFTER it was polished. Rework? A new owner? Gary

The rear polish on one side of the celt/adz suggest that it was used mostly to strike flat on that side. The hafting would protect the center pecking but as it was swung the rear would come in contact with the log at the end of the stroke.
There is no reason to intentionally polish that area outside of it being use wear/polish. Just my thoughts
