Every now and than you get lucky and dig some gold ring or a cool old silver coin. I got lucky yesterday while hunting a const. site with Pat and Mark. We were all digging a few bullets and than things got slow and I started hunting a corner area where there was a lot of trash. I was digging some camp lead when I get a real solid signal and there it was only a few inch's down the pocket watch! I have dug three over the years not counting this one. I moved to the other side and dug a few shot bullets than a dropped 3 ringer, than two more. I got Pat and Mark over there and they dug the rest. It was a fun day with a nice breeze and most of our hunting we were in shaded area's. Anyone know the approximate age of the watch? Hope everyone had a nice weekend

It's a old toy cap gun Pat dug. Also Mark dug a stick pin that said Route 66 from coast to coast with a picture of the United States on it.

Terrific day you had.Congratulations! Very nice finds and great watch.

On your pocket watch, if you can get the back to pop open, it should give you the maker and that would lead to a date. We have used electrolysis on old pocket watches made out of brass, to get the backs to open. I don't know if that would hurt the gold or not. There is a book on pocket watches that would help you date it. Super find.

This is a back that screws on, not a friction fit. Do not try and pry it off. It is also the second hand is in the 3 ck position, or a side winder. Means the watch movement is in a different case than it is designed for most likely. As other have said to date it the case markings and watch movement on the inside would be needed. It is a risk to try and get there.

Sweet watch! I bet that cap gun got his heart a pumping too. WTG! :hello2:

If you look on the inside rims usually the back it will have how many karats of gold the watch case is if it's soild...

KILLER pocketwatch find!!!

Only ones I ever found were plated.

Nice relics Tim!!! Like BB, I have never found a gold watch. WTG and HH.

What a sweet hunt, breeze & shade, and all that stuff, i bet you even had a buzz. the watch is to cool.
That's the way it's supposed to be.
