that could also be the old "open wire" telephone wire. Either way it won't be pure copper. Probably has a high steel content to it for strength. There are a lot of pure copper telephone cables in the ground that have been abandoned. Some telephone companies are now going back to their old records and trying to recover them for the scrap value.

Jack, and you correct, this does have some steel in it, but I called our local scrap yard and they still give copper value.. either way.. it was money just laying there

$ is $ is $ Way to go amigo  I say dig up as much as you can and hit that scrap yard. Let us know what the total is for your final haul.

yeah copper! down thru the palatine valley along the mohawk river and r.r. tracks are miles of that hanging and broken from the poles. i want to get it but don't want to get caught and go to jail. nice find. copper is high. Bill

Well, I wouldn't recommend that either.. I just happen to stumble upon this and it was on private property not state/city property

yep, copper is high dollar at this time, people are trying to steal it everywhere. If you can get copper price for what you got legally, go for it. Ya'll know there is a scrap metal forum on this site, don't ya? There's a bunch of good guys there that have been doing the recycling for years and making a good buck at it.

Davest, No, I didn't know there was a metal board.. you have the URL?
