80's CRH Collection - updated with pics - LOTS
As I noted in an earlier post (http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/coin-roll-hunting/328585-80s-crh-collection-depressing.html), my coworker brought in part of his collection that he acquired piecemeal from a CRH'er in the late 1980's. I spent the better part of Saturday cataloging it, separating the valuable coins from the junk silver, and researching some of the more rare and oddball stuff. Here is what we found:
27 Indian Head cents:
25 Liberty V nickels:
41 silver Roosevelt dimes, 104 Mercury head dimes, and 86 Barber dimes:
140 silver Washington quarters and 8 dateless Standing Liberty quarters:
A freakin' bag of halves, including 85 Walking Liberties, 49 Franklins, and 4 1964 Kennedy's:
In addition to the loose halves, he had 34 Walking Liberties in flips, and a set of 34 WL's from 1936 to 1937 encased in plastic. This set includes the elusive 1938-D. A LCS I talked to said the coins had been cleaned, but I haven't confirmed that. They tried to low-ball the heck out of me, so I have no idea how reliable their analysis was.
35 Morgan dollars and 70 Peace dollars:
9 ASE's from 1987 to 1989, and 6 miscellaneous silver rounds:
Miscellaneous loose coins that I put in flips included a dateless shield nickel, an 1919 Canadian dime, an 1897-S Barber dime, and 3 Seated Liberty dimes dated 1885, 1887, and 1891-S, and an 1862 GOLD $1 Indian princess coin (sorry for the bad pic - I was afraid to take it out of the case...)
Other items include 3 .720 silver Mexican 100 Peso coins, an 1873 Belgian 5 franc coin (90% silver), a 1942 Canadian half, a 1968 Canadian dime (confirmed silver), and a 1973 Canadian 10 Dollar coin commemorating the 1976 Olympics (apparently 1.445 oz of .925 silver):
Still more oddball yet still potentially valuable stuff include 3 gold and silver casino tokens, a complete 1972 New Zealand coin set, a 1967 New Zealand set of coins only, and a key from the 1934 World's Fair that was apparently turned into a pin:
Last but not least are 2 different Pope coins from 1979. I've researched these again and again, and really haven't been able to come up with anything. Anybody have any information on these?
All in all an impressive collection, and not even all of it yet! He's looking to sell the bulk of it, but I've asked him for more time so I can go over everything more carefully, looking for key dates and what not. Also gives us time to shop around to help him get the biggest bang for his buck. I'll probably make him an offer on the nickels and cents, as well as some of the silver. At the very least, when he does sell I plan to lump in the approximately 400 40% halves that I've accumulated, and hopefully be able to upgrade to 90%'s with no loss.

Actually, looking at wear, the '38 is almost a dead ringer for your '38-D.
