hi from n/z would this be a 9, 12 or 40 lb armstrong remains ...I found them a a battle site that got blasted with them all in 1861...all I can add is the artillery was supplied by the british royal artillery and landed in n/z in 1861...the little .22 bullett is only for a size comparision..thanks all, des

Looks like an armstrong to me, what is the diameter of the round piece with 22 on it?

12lb. is about 3".

Hello De,
Sorry, I don't know much about old (or new) artillery. The thing that catches my eye is the .22 round. The projectile look to be longer than the 40 grain we shoot. Maybe it is just the way it was photographed...Like looking down the railroad tracks.
