- Metal Detecting
Yesterday was one of those days you dream about being a relic hunter. I literally found almost 50 targets in a small 15 by 15 square foot area. Every where I swept my detector I got a signal! What I couldn't believe was I had been there many times before.... BUT these relics were DEEP. My Nautilus may have missed them but the XP DEUS didn't !!! Every Gardner, 22 of them, and every musket ball, was 12 inches or deeper. And the Mississippi coat button was just as deep..... entangled in a web of roots, right at the base of a massive elm tree. I am honestly amazed that I didn't hit it with my shovel getting it out. This area is void of any trash, except for the always present shot gun shell and the occasional small caliber modern bullet, .... so once I realized what I had just walked into, I started to hunt very slow and llistened for the slightest increase in the DEUS's tones. I walked into this area late in the hunt so I was only there for about an hour. I know there are more relics there! Once I get a chance to get back I will grid the area off and walk a pattern hitting the site in all directions. Hopefully another button or two is hiding in there or possibly a plate! Buttons with stars on them always get me going! I could hardly sleep last night............. I can't wait to get back!!! This Mississippi Infantry coat button has 100 percent gold gilt! The green areas have gold underneath but I decided to leave it like it is. The back is silver plated and reads Hyde and Goodrich NO. Now this button whistles DIXIE!!!!! HH Devonrex
