a boa is hunting the cat - how to trap ?

Do you have a few odds and ends,....... some wood, a hand drill, some wire,, stuff like that?

I can show you how to make a spring or falling weight set up.

Boa sticks his head in, trips the trip, machete flashes down and it's good night boa

I make everything, please describe

am excessively familiar with guns, best reserved for the big bald monkeys

well, I have another little consideration; the tolomuco's that live here
tayra in English, member of the weasel family and not too often seen

but they hunt the toads in the creek, and will be only too pleased to eat a captive mouse;
both bait for the boa and easy for me to catch

so now do I hang the baited treble in some kind of enclosure where the tolomuco will not enter ?

I've been quiet about the treble hook idea but have misgivings due to possible unintended consequences. It now appears that you too see the possibility for incidental catch of some other non-target species that are not a threat to your cat - or even of the cat itself. I've removed treble hooks from animals before and it is not easy to do - especially with the barbs. It helps to do it with two people and some good cutting pliers. As a result, I now remove treble hooks from my fishing lures and file down the barbs from single hooks. The advantage of doing so is the ease of release. The hooks often fall out when given a little slack line after fighting a fish.

Some cats show no interest in returning to an outdoor life. Others will dart out a door and/or whine about going outdoors to their old haunts. Shelves placed at windows help somewhat by allowing them to see the outdoors while keeping them safely inside. I have also seen catios constructed with wire mesh that is sized according to the size of local snakes.

We used this method for coyotes and hung the treble hook from a tree branch, in your situation it would have to be lower or hung high and placed on a branch if they climb?, what other animals around their eat frogs? With the coyotes we used chicken liver and the only other animal that could reach it is a dog, luckley for me that was never a issue...

What Megalodon is saying is very true the treble hook doesn't care whats at the other end..

Hi, Try a double barrel dog bait gun trap with s -gs . Point the barrels towards the house ,when the snake takes the bait all steel balls will get the cat and owner . Problem solved . TP

lots of comments, try to reply

yes, removed a treble from a Springer Spaniel several times - they are the dumbest dogs in the world, bred for show
for fishing I go the other way, replace steel with ss trebs one size up (Japanese hooks)

apart from the availability, guns need to be at hand and have a target; snakes are not too compliant
I have the same issue with a phone/camera, never at hand; 2 days ago (stock image)

the ocelot was a male, adult golf ball sized; my cat was electrified at the odor - afraid
this is a strange place to see an ocelot, there was a band of monkeys for several weeks - perhaps

the cat "gato" is a lazy mouser and only sleeps inside, out most nights
- but he knows something is up and returns puffed up

would like to think of a safe enclosure for the loaded treble

Hi ,Greta does eat meat , she claims to be a vegan . The truth is she eats the B.S. that her father gives her. Shoot Bindi Erwin to total fake . Never lived or worked in remote or outback Australia for more than a couple of days. TP

HOW DARE YOU?! :crybaby2::wink:

Search pvc pipe python trap on YouTube to give you an idea as to how it's done.

Using a snake snare trap means less chance of catching your cat.

Billy, just hold tight.
I'll make a drawing and post a picture.

To put something in your head for creative purposes imagine a set up where a machete is
set up, so, when a small piece is moved, like a "trigger and sear" on a firearm.

Well, when that trigger is nudged,.... there is a razor sharp machete above.

Depends what you have laying about,......

You can apply the medicine with a spring, or a falling weight, etc

You can keep it simple by drilling a hole in the machete,....
I know, tough steel, pain in the neck,.... find an el cheapo one.
Test it with a file to see how tough the material is.
Find a softer one.

You might want to dull it up, or tape it up until you're finished designing your set up.
It's like playing with a mouse trap, if you mess up you'll need stitches,..or something.

First hole about 3/4" / 1" above the top of the handle on center,....

Hole size depends on what material you have around, 1/2" steel rod, 1/2" plumbing pipe,
broom stick,... You stick that between to uprights
They support the shaft on the left and right, and the machete can swing up and down.

So,... a second hole some distance back from the tip can be used for the sear.
Or, heat it and beat it and form a ledge or something,.......
Depends what you have to work with.

This all can be done with a 20 ga shotgun cartridge with a bit simpler set up,...
but this is quiet, and no expense for the cartridge, which has to be replaced.

ok, you have a couple of 2x4's or whatever, maybe 10" tall,....
They have been drilled for your shaft and greased up,...
To keep the blade centered between the goal post put washers, tubing, hose, etc.
All this takes place in a box. Those uprights are fastened to the bottom of the box.
You should now be able to grab the handle of the machete and pull up quick.
The other end comes down fast, mark that spot where the blade strikes.
The handle of many machete's handle has a small hole for a lanyard.
You can attach a line to a heavy weight to supply the "up" force or a spring under it.

Box has a hole, looks like the mouse hole in a cartoon,....

Inside some "Hoops" imagine the lawn game "croquette" about every inch.
don't need to be strong, maybe even made from coat hangers.
They just keep the snake on track, no turning left or right in the box.

The trigger should smell like a frog, not like you,.....

The snake will enter because of the bait you put, or a recording of a kitten.
In he comes, the wire hoops keep him on track, he goes forward, bumps the trigger,..

And down comes the medicine.

Bound to ruin the snakes whole day.
