Had a local artifact hunter come by today and brought me a find. He is on disability and for extra cash he sells me things he finds, but this has made me loose my breath. I scoped it an there is no tool marks and it has great deposits on it. I think it is a atlatl weight made to be an effigy for a bug, maybe a Locust? 0520201958.webp0520201957a_Burst01.webp0520201957_Burst01.webp0520201952a.webp0520201952a.webp

I bought it needles to say. Has one else seen anything like this. Found in Adams co. MS. made out of a local stone cobble.

Definitely has the style of a atlatl weight, as for being authentic I don't know. It is a cool piece

That is neat! It almost looks like a butterfly cocoon.

It was neat to have this come to me first. This old sick man needs to play with a rock. My lunges are in the same shape that they were 2 weeks ago. If walk to the end of the drive way which is only 30 yards from the front door I'm give and out of breath. Still doing a bunch of medicine along with breathing treatments 2 times a day. Getting old ain't for sissies. I won't to walk my creek so bad I can smell it. I could probably get down one of those 200ft hills, but walking in the creek I wouldn't go far and then I would have to call a rescue unit to get me out.

Didn't you just get over the virus? Take it easy for a while. Those rocks will still be out there. Gary

Do you get Poverty Point relics in your area? They made a lot of colorful carvings from stone. (Including bugs/grubs.)

They aren't considered Poverty Point, but we do find some Archaic stone effigy beads and other things like that.

Interesting piece. I've never seen one like that.

A friend sent me this information on atlatl weights from B.C. and Canada. Here are a few photos of one's close to what I have an I'm not saying it came from that area but it is close in shape and size.Screenshot_20200608-095548.webpScreenshot_20200608-095638.webpScreenshot_20200608-095512.webp
