A Button & A Buckle

Got out on Sunday with Frank. Got these 2 items. Any idea how old the buckle is & what it was used for?

The button is older. Not sure of the age of the buckle. I would certainly keep hunting a site that was turning up stuff like that. How large of an area were you dealing with?

The buckle is very old; 1650 to 1720.
