Is it not an above-ground burial vault rather than a coffin? If so, there will be a casket inside, but that's not the actual coffin. These kinds of structures (which are often stylised to resemble coffins) are preferred in areas that have a high water-table and sometimes as personal preference for reasons of prestige or ease of visitation by mourners.
