Still in the field. Any help would be super appreciated! Will try for better pics later. Couldn't get a decent picture of the back.

Try taking a picture of that coin / token alongside a penny for size comparison. Soak it in distilled water and then gently remove crud with a toothpick. Is it copper, silver, or aluminium ?
 

At this point with no reverse picture it looks more button like?

Until there are better /more pics I'm not seeing anything that would lead me to believe it's Spanish but maybe I'm just not seeing what you're seeing

Thing is... everyone who suggested it was a button was thinking the first picture was a backmark. But now seeing the back you clearly have a marked button so the ID process is just beginning.

That's a South Carolina militia button-SC militia or Civil War (impossible to tell without the the back mark).
