The detecting itch was building in me big time the past week so I hit a nearby yard this evening. No large coppers for once but did manage a couple silver five cent pieces. One was a 1899 and the other was a 1912. Its not always easy to find them small fish scales so getting two was nice. I also found a old hair pin and little broach pin. Plus a thin decorative buckle I hit of coarse with the shovel and a few flat buttons. One says on the front of the button the name Cross and London under a crown at the top. Strange to have the maker on the front amd not the back. Thanks for looking and it was a nice hour or two out besides horrendous black flies! [emoji16][emoji106]

Wow. That 1899 still has a lot of detail. It wasn?t used a whole lot before it was lost. She?s a beaut!

Always wondered why they call them fish scales

Well from what I heard is back in the day they were so small they resembled the big fish scales fisherman would get stuck to their hands and clothes. Big fish like cod or possibly salmon would have big scales roughly the same size and when they dry would seem sorta the same in your hand as the coin. That?s just what I heard so not 100% sure!
