A couple of BHID questions

Hi everyone. I took my new to me BHID out for the first time yesterday to my fave beach. It's a freshwater beach and the black sand is quite evident swirled accross the sand. I noticed a couple of things that were not quite normal in my opinion. I was running with GB at the middle position, using disc, threshold at just audible and sens at the preset point. I found that at the end of my swing, to the right only, I would get a falsing. I also noticed that after I used the pinpoint and switched it back to disc, the machine seemed to false alot, I mean alot. I found that Canadian coins sounded so bad I would normally not have bothered to dig such a signal with any of my other machines, but since I am new to this machine, I will dig all until I learn it. This machine likes to be swung fast. Do you think the black sand is the issue here, could I have a defective disc/all metal switch or circuit? The switch does shift between the functions and operates but I wonder if it's operating correctly. There were times that after I pinpointed and went back to disc, there would be no threshold or very little and the machine became quite stable with no falsing and performed very well. The coil was not in the water, only on the wet/dry sand. Has anyone else experienced these conditions? Thanx

It could be because of the black sand, but that wouldn't have any thing to do with it always falsing at the end of a swing. I suspect it is the windings moving inside the coil again since White's uses floam inside the coils instead of epoxy like everyone else. This is also the reason they float so bad in the water and have to be held down.

The Canadian coins are probably being disc out too much. I have had two BHID's and neither worked well. Twice burned but not again, but that is just my luck. Suggest you call White's and ask but I think you will have to send it in for a check up on the switch. Things go wrong with all makes of detectors and I wish you luck.

If yu swing it out of the water it will false allot.

Turn the sensitivity down to around the preset. This won't affect the performance and will greatly improve stability.
The 12" coil is very hot and can't be run at the same high settings as the older BHID 9.5 coil in harder black sanded areas.

I can run it hot but it depends on the beach location that I'm working it at.

Most new users tend to run this detector too hot which will actually decrease performance and cause possible falsing.
It takes time to learn the proper settings for the different areas you'll be working in.

This is a terrific machine once you learn it well!!!
