Hey Scrappy, thanks for the info. John dug it from the same area as yesterday, about 40 feet from the vernal stream. I'm heading up to his place tomorrow and we'll be detecting. I don't get to detect often, so I'm hoping I'll be the one to find something cool! ~L

Nice finds! Being found near a Vernal Stream accounts for the appearance as the waters often stagnate and develop fungus, algae and molds which often decays during dry periods.
