. . . I was out with Lowbatts, Mayo, D-Dub & Kimsdad when I
got a "ring" tone on the new V3. Turned out to be a bird's "ring"
buried about 5" down. I was disappointed that it wasn't gold but
I suppose a bird wouldn't know the difference anyway :D

The next morning I called the USGS F & W and gave them the
number on the band and yesterday, I received a certificate with all
the info about this critter which was really kind of neat.

Fast forward to today:

This morning I met up with OlderActor, TreasureFiend & Cladtheimpaler
to revisit a site I hunted last year. We were there a couple of hours and during
that time, Kermit got on board with a nice silver George and some early wheats.

Toward the end of my hunt, I had found three wheats, a deer shed and a religous "key"
pendant. . . but no silver until OlderActor came over and asked if I had any luck.
I was right in the process of digging a nice dime/quarter-sounding target when my
luck changed (got to bring OA along more often) into a sweet 1918-S SLQ :-*

The hunt was too short but it was fun

Thanks for looking!

SLQ is still on my wish list..... Great looking finds Mark!
I have about 8 bird bands I should look into,, cool info!

congrats ON YOUR FINDS , SURE ARE ALOT OF SLQ'S BEING FOUND THIS YEAR!

Great finds!
The bird tag thing is cool. The SLQ is great. I am still waiting on one of those. Always good to have a pre-1924 with a legible date!

WOW - I didn't know you had that key, great hunt buddy we pulled some cool stuff!!! :icon_pirat:

Hi watercolor, that bird band is cool i didn't know you could get that info about them.I found one of those a few years ago at busse. being so small i remember it was hard to pick out of the pile of dirt. Ill have to go look for it, i hope i still have it now. Good job tracking that down :icon_thumright:

Cool Mark! I've gotten to help rehab about a half dozen saw-whets over the years, Very tiny owls, their name comes from their call, and their talons are like curved needles. They tend to find open skin very quickly if you're not careful.

Oh yeah, EXCELLENT coinage!

That's pretty neat!
I never knew you were supposed to call those in.
Mike

Great finds again, buddy!!!

Those traceable bands are really cool - my goose band is one of my prized finds for sure.

Of course that quarter is a superb find! I was pulling for an 8 over 7 for you!

Very nice Quarter...
