So there's this field I drive by every day on the way to school and I've never walked it. Today I decided to check it out and ended up with a couple things that I never found before...
1. Bifurcated base ?type?
2. A drill! Very worn down, but I'm counting it
3. Imported rhyolite

Had a blast, did better in one hour than the last 6 months of hunting combined... I'll definitely check it out again. Also scored a Madison, adze, and this thing that looks weird to me...the Madison is very translucent.

Also, one last thing...sorry if this is a really confusing post, I had to rush..ask if you can't figure out what is what

Where are you located?

If you're in the Carolinas or Virginia I'd say that broke is a Lacroy.

Yep Virginia, don't have a clue why that didnt cross my mind before
Thanks gator

That's so obvious now that I think about it...

Nice find on the new spot!

I'd say Gator put knocked that one out of the park. I have never seen a quartzite Lacroy until now. Cool!

Nice finds. love the Quartzite triangle, it's a shame the Lacroy is broke, but still a cool find. Thanks for the view.

GTK - great finds. I don't think it's a Lecroy though. Obviously a bifurcate but the basal lobes aren't as pronounced as is typical for Lecroy. I'm not familiar enough yet with mid-Atlantic points to offer a better idea off the top of my head. When I get home I'll look around and see what I can find. Nice haul.

Lacroy has a few variations here's another one. The beginning of the serrations typical for that type is also visible on the piece posted. Of course I could be wrong but I've been studying the Mid Atlantic coast and Piedmont for a while. I'm interested in what you think it is Twitch.

Tough call with so much missing.. It does seem a little large for a Lacroy, or a Kanawha. Maybe its a Big Sandy variant, Maybe a Big Sandy contracted base.

Just throwing another one out there.. St. Albans ?

I'll put up a few more angles with a size reference when I get home later, thanks for all the replies

Nice finds but I have to say I'm more impressed by everyone's willingness to help and impressive knowledge. It's obvious so many on this forum know their stuff.
Gator - I'm impressed! It's not often you find someone well versed on various regions outside of their own. I'd even bet you know a thing or two about artifacts/historical knowledge outside the boundaries of the US. You really are an expert! Lol. Figured I owed you that since having my "undies in a knot" and misinterpreting your reply to one of my few posts. And not kissing butt...only stating the obvious. I've spent a lot of time here learning from you all in the last week. And now that I "know" you all better I felt like an even bigger a$$! Good job everyone! Happy hunting!

Thank you for the kind words.
You are right about the people here.... a real good group. Especially considering the possibilities of what and open forum on the Internet could attract. that probably says alot about our hobby... and also the job the moderators are doing..." speaking of kissing butt"...

Also pretty cool to have my name and "undies" mentioned in the same paragraph... LOL. 8-)

I noticed the size as well. Their is a cluster from this time period that are so similar in design that spending time debating an ID is near useless. However, I'm like you Viking, lacroy is usually small. If its not like this, it's not lacroy in my book. (Which is unwritten due to low demand)
