A Few Hunt's Yields 1st GOLD, a Bucket List Coin, 5 Silvers and Other Goodies

First off, let me apologize for not posting or commenting in a few weeks. :notworthy:

I lost my best find last Thursday. :BangHead: Jim, the 88 yo Navy vet that I meet and was visiting passed a way. I believe he passed in his sleep. I sure am going to miss him. Pretty much thought of him as an adopted dad.

A few weeks ago my neighbor secured me a permission to hunt his parents farm house lot. :headbang: The house is from the 1850's. On Friday 8/28 I took the afternoon off and hit the property. The soil was dry but they did not care. I pulled a BUCKET LIST coin. My 1st shield nickle, :hello2: a 1944 Merc and 5 wheats (1916, 32, 41, 44, & 52D).

Being that the soil is very very dry, I went back to an out-of-the-way public property, one of my honey holes. (this place has surrendered a couple barbers, mercs and other silvers, not to mention over $170 in clad. The place used to be infested with quarters. Many a hunt I would not dig unless it rang in as a quarter or larger.

Since it rained last night I went to a new permission, another farm that was built in the 1860's. The owner told me that a woman detected the property a couple years ago. I hit the property hard in a grid. My finds are below. 2 pics of the same thing, the one with sunlight shows a 1935 King George LC and the 1904 IHP with better detail. I also pulled 6 wheats (1912 x 2, 15, 19. 42, & 53D)

2 quick hunts after work, no pic, only pulled 76 cents in clad.

2 more hunts, one revisit to a permission and the other was the grade school and it's tot lot. Pulled a 63-D Rosie.

Went back to the house (where I dug my banner find) and wound up pulling my 3rd IHP from the site (1882). I also pulled a sterling ear ring, a cool lock and 5 wheats (1918, 20, 54D, 56D, & 57D).

Cold knocked a house I have been wanting to hunt and guess what. The owner said "YES" :headbang:. Pulled my 1st Gold :hello2:, and inscribed pocket watch. No old coins, but the key I found is really thin. It is a souvenir for a turnpike.

Revisited an old permission (upper left in the pic). Have about 20 hours in this lot. Did not find much. Went back to a small town park that gave me close to $200 in clad last summer. I pounded that sit in 3 directions last year. (middle left). Decided to hit the practice field again. They park cars on it for the Friday night games. The site had produced 3 silver dimes in the past. It gave me 2 more in this hunt 44 Merc & 53 Rosie :hello2: also 4 wheats (1940, 42, 44D & 45) lower left in pic. I still had some time to kill so I revisited a house build in the 1820's. I had hit this last season when I used to discriminate all but nickles. 3rd target was an 1854 Bank of Upper Canada half penny :headbang: and 2 wheats (1916 & 53D). Another notable is the Lorain County Automobile Club Placard. Right hand side of the pic

Went back to the house built in the 1820's and hunted for a few more hours. Pulled a 1954 quarter,:hello2: and 4 more wheats (1909, 20 x 2, & 25) and a neat Garfield Monument souvenir. Also went back to the old farm house to see if I missed much. Only found a 1915 wheat.

I took this week off to decompress. I plan production for a football equipment manufacturer. Mid July through the 1st week of Sept. is our peak season. 12 hr days are the norm. I am also coming to terms with the loss if Jim.

As always, hope ya'll got out and swung the coil :metaldetector: today.

Hey Loco, sorry for your loss. One of your best finds was getting to know Jim and I'm sure he felt the same way. Everything in this world is temporary from our finds to our friends. The experience is the only thing that we can keep. Love your finds .
