:hello:

It's been a very slow start to the season so far for me, a broken toe has hampered the detecting :-\ and I found it hard to stay on a field for longer than a couple of hours.
My main fields are now cut, but I hate stubble, but I think in a short while they will be ploughed :hello2: but I have managed a couple of things that might interest you  a small Cannon ball (grape shot I think) this is the first one of these I have found, but i like it :icon_thumleft:

Managed a few Silvers, A William Sixpence from the same area were I found the York Shilling, this makes four coins from there so I think a small purse loss :o a very nice 18thc Horse Boss with face :o The Romans are hiding :dontknow: only had about six...all poor :-\
The couple of hours I managed today produced the first Hammereds :headbang: one is a Cracker :o Cut Half Penny of Henry 11 Walter on Northampton :headbang: and a Henry 111 cut half, I also found a coin or Jetton :dontknow: which I can't ID :icon_scratch:

hopefully The season should get better, Tomorrow I try a very difficult field, very quiet but some great stuff has been found there :icon_thumleft:

UPDATE...just found out what the small bronze coin is, it's a coin of James 111 of Scotland,1460-1488. Pennies or farthings, which are commonly referred to as Crosraguel pennies, from the abbey at St. Andrews where most of the extent examples were found. It is not for certain whether these were an Ecclesiastical issue
that was issued by Bishop James Kennedy, or if they were a regal issue. At any rate, regardless of the issuer, they must have not been popular as they have never been found in any quantity aside from the Crosraguel hoard. Halfpenny or 1/2d Probably unique
Farthing or 1/4d Popularly known as "Black money :o

That's a KILLER day Colin, no Romans needed! Those clipped Henrys' are absolutely beautiful as is that incredible William III Sixpence! The Horse Boss with the face is First Rate too but I think the Scottish Coin of James III may take the cake if its that rare! It don't take you long to find the good stuff, broke toe or not :headbang: :headbang: :occasion14:
Hi Josh :hello:

The William Sixpence is from exactally were I found the William York Shilling, just before you got yours, almost certain it's part of a Purse loss, as I have had four Williams from the small area :icon_thumleft:

I don't quite know what to do about the James 111 :dontknow: it seems little are known about them, I don't even know if it is a Penny or a Smaller coinage :-\

Very cool, now I know where to look I found it in the book :laughing9:

As you say, perhaps issued by Bishop James Kennedy of St Andrews.
If you look you can read the legends & they fit well:
IACOBVS DEI GRA REX
CRUX PELLIT OIE CRIM
2003 book price £70 in Fine :)
Thanks, I knew it wouldn't be worth much, just glad it's cleared up, plus it will be the only one on UKFD :)

As you know, price means very little to me, just thought I would quote the book. It must be pretty damn rare for both of us to have never seen one  :hello2:
:-\

UKFD knocked the coin back because of the condition, it deteriorated a bit when I got it back :'( I have been checking a bit and learned the penny was 19mm, but this one is 11mm, found a good site that said Half pennies are probably unique :dontknow:

Found one thats 21mm, in fact found 2 on the web. As the Legends fit that of a Penny & no other in the book (although no mention of halfpenny), then I can only think that the size varied greatly for these non Regal issues (which seems plausable). So did the UKDFD not record it? This is interesting, to say the least

"found a good site that said Half pennies are probably unique"
Love THAT word
Congrats again

No they didn't, and the Portable Antiquties have them down as Proberbly a Jetton :icon_scratch:, I'm not very happy with the UKFD, they should have given it more consideration >:( after all they have none recorded ???
