The canteen was found in the mountains about 2 feet deep. The spanish button was found in a rice paddy ( go figure) and the helmet was also buried at one time....More to come...Was unable to find out information about Akers....

Keep digging as more fun than paperwork...

Regards,

wow! very cool stuff! where are you located?

Very cool stuff ! What does it say on the canteen ? Mabey someone here could help ! I know some folks named Akers. ;D

JT: Real Nice! Besides Akers, Tennessee, & New Guinea, 1944, What else does the Canteen have etched in it? Is that a Jap Helmet?

HH Joe

The canteen says on the front...Akers Tennessee Hawaii 1943 New Guinea 1944 Philipinnes 1945

I have tried over the years to find out information about this man, however, he did not put his serial number on the canteen. The New Guinea campaign I read was extremely dangerous with major casualties. My wife is filipina and she lost both grandfathers who were in the US army. Finding military items has more meaning due to this fact.

Yes,

The canteen was found in the R.P. I have always wondered if Mr. Akers was KIA or if he was a POW and his canteen was discarded.
