I'm not a motorcycle rider, but I do enjoy collecting and reading vintage publications. Just wanted to share a few pics of these "Harley Davidson Enthusiast" magazines dating from 1931 to 1938 that i found in December at, of all places, a gun show. Spotted a few of them on a table and had to have 'em. The elderly gentleman mentioned that he had more of them (72 in all, along with a 1934 parts catalog) and we agreed to a price for the lot. They all have many cool pictures, and neat cover pics. My favorites are the group photo beneath Mt. Rushmore before completion, and the picture of the hunter hauling the buck on a sidecar. One of the magazines is a "Police Issue" and shows many options available for police bikes. Gotta love the race bike pics and the ads too.

Nice collection. Have you checked on Ebay for sale values? I have to believe there are collectors out there dying to get their hands on these.

Love it and how times change!

Awesome vintages. My dad used to drag race Harleys in the 1960s, before being drafted and serving in Vietnam. He was a friend of Leo Payne. I remember going to his house when I was really young and he and my dad would fiddle with bike parts in our garage. I have a lot of 'motorcycle' memories...it quite literally was our life. We had a cycle salvage business too for several years. We used to pack up and take loads of bike parts to swap meets...those were some of the best days of my younger life. There is a picture of a hill climb on one of those books you posted here. Man, that takes me back to the Anamosa hill climbs just east of here. We went to a lot of those. Lots of fond memories. If anyone here ever passes through central Iowa going east-west-west-east, stop in Anamosa and visit the Motorcycle Museum. Incredible collection of motorcycle history there. I have some pics from last year...we had a family reunion there in a banquet hall, so I wandered around taking photos. Thanks for loading this mope540.

Thanks for sharing the stories!! Here are a few covers showing dirt track, road racing, and hill climbs. Every issue has pictures and stories covering some style of competition.

ARE THOSE EVER COOL! I would of bought them...lol...and I don't even like motorcycles. One of those finds where even if you could get really good money for them, they would be hard to let go of!
Thanks for posting them.

It always liked there hats. LoL! A hat like that would of flown off your head at 10 mph. Times do change.
The hill climb rider in this pic managed to keep his on....those nosy and annoying nannies would come unglued if someone were to do that today.
