I have been detecting as usual with only coins and the usual assortment of junk and recyclables.

Today I went back to the club and found some nice round shiny things, a lock, a round ball from the civil war considering the history of the area, and some junky jewelry. The lock is a Herculock with NJAW on the back, possibly from New Jersey American Water. The coins are a 1938 mercury dime and a 1939 Washington quarter.

The real gem for today was this flat button. It has a much thicker and nicer silver plate than any other button I have ever found. I had to clean the back to see the backmark and I can still only see part of it, but it has a 6 pointed star and what looks like “SHEFFIELD”. It is possible it is Sheffield plate. It has another word or two that is still covered by crud that ends with a D.

Does anyone know anything about this backmark? I have not been successful in finding anything on line.
Thanks for looking and may your coil pass over only good things.
