Well I have finally managed to get the fire lit under Baldingboy to get out of bed and start detecting again. His wife tells me she thinks he is turning into a bear the way he sleeps all the time.

Baldingboy managed to get us permission to hunt a place I have been talking to him about for the last 3 years! I was so stoked. I wanted to start at 7 because it was a RARE Saturday with no kids. I mean this is the first in 7 months! But he says he needs his beauty sleep and wouldn't start until 9 or so. So I got my stuff together and headed over to his house at 8:30. At 9:05 he finally roles out of bed and throws on some clothes and off we go.

The grounds had been hunted before, the prior owner told me as much. But I knew in my gut that there had to be something there to dig. It was slow going for the first hour and Baldingboy kept whining that he wanted to go back to bed and that he had a headache. I pulled out the block of white cheddar I had brought along because I knew he would bring the whine..... ::)

Didn't have anything to show for detecting after an hour when I got a mixed signal. I was pretty sure silver was in the hole but I got an iron signal that nulled it out. So I dug it and found the remains of a pocket knife with Sterling Silver plated decorative sides. I had more of the knife but my old hunting bag developed a hole in it and I lost a few pieces. That really got me excited.

A few minutes later found a wheat penny, then the Tilt token.

The find of the day for me was the 1899 Indian head though. For 3 years I have yet to find one with my Explorer while BB has found several. So that really pumped me up when I found it. And it is in pretty good shape too.

A short time later I got a pretty decent signal and dug up the Token. I think it says Wilmot Ark on it but I cannot tell. I may try a little aluminum jelly on it later and see if I might be able to clean it up anymore.

Found a couple of cool buttons. A shell casing with 45-70 stamped on the bottom of it and my second best find of the day.

The signal wasn't real good but I went ahead and dug it. Pulled the John Deere Pin out about 14 inches deep! It was amazing that I managed to find it so deep. But after I opened the hole and got the good signal it was much stronger so I went ahead and recovered it. Sooo cool! :icon_thumleft:

The day was winding down and I got an iffy copper signal so I started working on it and pulled an iron nail out of the hole. I waved my coil over the hole and got a really good hit at about 8-10 inches so I started digging. it took me a while to finally get the target out and it turned out to be the hair clip. And before BB can say it, it is NOT my hair clip. And it is not his, I know this because he has no hair to wear a clip in anymore.

I have several bruises from where BB hit me with multiple dirt clods and I'm sore from the detecting but man what a day!

Even though BB tried to ruin my day by finding a better silver item than me and TWO Indian Heads. I take my personal triumphs where I can find them and yesterday was definitely a great day of detecting for me. Oh and by the way. The hinge piece he says he found. I actually found the signal for him and was too tired to dig it so I let him have it. See that's what a good friend does for his friend....... ::) ;D

Also found three tax tokens. My first 5 Token, the First large 1 inside state variety and then a common one for me.

Wow! You got some awesome finds! Love the sterling knife and the Deere item! Well done!

Those really are some cool finds. I REALLY like that John Deere Stick Pin. That Indian Head Penny has a great patina and that "Headlight" button is cool too. You had a great day. Aside from the Tittering Fit you had...it was a good day. :laughing7:

Just kidding...we need to go back.

By the way, I have never found one of those "5" sales tax tokens. I have never found a Barber either Mr Indian Head Penny Man.

Good gosh, ME! What a haul! The store token is tops!!! Have you researched it yet? And the silver knife is awesome too! Heck...you got a pocket full of good stuff!!! Glad you two found such a productive site!! :icon_thumright: Congrats on all those finds!!

Nana :)

A little about Aluminum Tokens to:
It was in 1888 that Hall, backed by some financiers including Alfred Hunt, opened the first large-scale aluminum refinery in the United States. Not coincidentally, Russel Rulau (United States Trade Tokens 1866-1889) states that it was about 1890 when aluminum trade tokens started to appear en masse.[2] If you find an aluminum trade token, it's not likely to have been made before 1890, and it's extremely unlikely to have been made before 1888. Another source[3] places the earliest date at 1893. We can speculate here; it could be that aluminum didn't become well-known to the general public until the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago

I would deduce from all this that the token was probably made between 1890 and the time of his death around 1893! Very cool bro.

very nice findings!!

Cheers

The button with the words Head Light on it is prior to 1924. I found where the P.B. Co was awarded a patent for their button on December 9, 1924. Since mine says Patent applied for it only makes sense that it predates December 9. 1924!!!

Wow how cool is that?

What a wonderful array of treasure you found, congrats'

Now that is the guy I know. :hello2: Congrats on the great finds. Keep on diggin. When you are diggin the hole that means your not the one being placed in the hole. :tongue3:

Cool finds for sure !!
I really dig that John Deere pin too !
Being from Arkansas and having never, ever
heard of Wilmot, I had to check that out. It's
about as far South as you can get in Arkansas, and
a long ways from Missouri ... check this map :
