Well I have finally managed to get the fire lit under Baldingboy to get out of bed and start detecting again. His wife tells me she thinks he is turning into a bear the way he sleeps all the time.

Baldingboy managed to get us permission to hunt a place I have been talking to him about for the last 3 years! I was so stoked. I wanted to start at 7 because it was a RARE Saturday with no kids. I mean this is the first in 7 months! But he says he needs his beauty sleep and wouldn't start until 9 or so. So I got my stuff together and headed over to his house at 8:30. At 9:05 he finally roles out of bed and throws on some clothes and off we go.

The grounds had been hunted before, the prior owner told me as much. But I knew in my gut that there had to be something there to dig. It was slow going for the first hour and Baldingboy kept whining that he wanted to go back to bed and that he had a headache. I pulled out the block of white cheddar I had brought along because I knew he would bring the whine..... ::)

Didn't have anything to show for detecting after an hour when I got a mixed signal. I was pretty sure silver was in the hole but I got an iron signal that nulled it out. So I dug it and found the remains of a pocket knife with Sterling Silver plated decorative sides. I had more of the knife but my old hunting bag developed a hole in it and I lost a few pieces. That really got me excited.

A few minutes later found a wheat penny, then the Tilt token.

The find of the day for me was the 1899 Indian head though. For 3 years I have yet to find one with my Explorer while BB has found several. So that really pumped me up when I found it. And it is in pretty good shape too.

A short time later I got a pretty decent signal and dug up the Token. I think it says Wilmot Ark on it but I cannot tell. I may try a little aluminum jelly on it later and see if I might be able to clean it up anymore.

Found a couple of cool buttons. A shell casing with 45-70 stamped on the bottom of it and my second best find of the day.

The signal wasn't real good but I went ahead and dug it. Pulled the John Deere Pin out about 14 inches deep! It was amazing that I managed to find it so deep. But after I opened the hole and got the good signal it was much stronger so I went ahead and recovered it. Sooo cool! :icon_thumleft:

The day was winding down and I got an iffy copper signal so I started working on it and pulled an iron nail out of the hole. I waved my coil over the hole and got a really good hit at about 8-10 inches so I started digging. it took me a while to finally get the target out and it turned out to be the hair clip. And before BB can say it, it is NOT my hair clip. And it is not his, I know this because he has no hair to wear a clip in anymore.

I have several bruises from where BB hit me with multiple dirt clods and I'm sore from the detecting but man what a day!

Even though BB tried to ruin my day by finding a better silver item than me and TWO Indian Heads. I take my personal triumphs where I can find them and yesterday was definitely a great day of detecting for me. Oh and by the way. The hinge piece he says he found. I actually found the signal for him and was too tired to dig it so I let him have it. See that's what a good friend does for his friend....... ::) ;D

Also found three tax tokens. My first 5 Token, the First large 1 inside state variety and then a common one for me.
