O yeah!

Sunday afternoon I went back to the field that produced two large cents yesterday. I started a grid search and stuck with it. Lots of brass, iron rings x 2, brass buckels x 2, lead, and copper pieces. About 2 hours in I get a solid hit in the 70s on the Fisher and down five inches is a round disk. No field id was possible due to the wear on the piece, but some work at home revealed a figure facing right and a harp on the reverse, a George III half penny, my first!

Finally found a flat button in this field.

Other finds of note are the lantern part and a curious copper ball with shank.

Thanks for checking out the pics and video of the halfpenny dig.

L-D, this setup is working well. Sensitivity 93, Discrimination 7, Tones 3H, and Search mode DE. I hear the iron. Large rusted iron will sometimes give a high tone but most other iron is usually a grunt or broken crackle below 20. The coins can't be missed by the tome quality, tight location and numbers consistent between 70 and 85. The 2-center rang up as a solid 66 and then jumped to a 71 with the plug removed. Not sure if I would have dug a 66 in the city park, but out here you can dig everything that isn't iron. Coil is the NEL Tornado. The two deepest targets so far have been the oil lamp parts; both were down 11 inches.

Thanks Art! Been a good transition for me away from the city lights.

Thanks Nick! Usually find a way to get them all in one pic. You see I usually start with the coins. :happysmiley:

Looks like a "field of dreams", McCDig......dream big, find big!! Congrats on some nice finds.............:icon_thumright:

Thx Crusader! Read about the conterfeits. It was found within 50 feet of the two large cents I dug the day before and those are dated 1818 and 1821.

I read that this farmer had sheep back in the 1800s and put bells on them, so you may be on to something there.

Thx Chizzy. Looks like I'll be back there on Thursday; hope to get an early start. Will just head back to the same field and continue the grid.

Thx Trezurehunter! You'd think by the relics that this was near a homesite. Thought I'd find more buttons, though, have a lot more field to cover.

I really enjoy hunting the fields, no one around and you never know what will pop up. Hopefully I will be able to get out soon, go back to Dr today, it's been 2 weeks since operation. Going crazy in the house. Good luck. Art

Congrats on your finds, can't wait to see what come from the field on Thursday's hunt.

Thx Jamie!

Thanks for introducing yourself at the meeting. Congrats on those finds from the city park (I will not mention the name here). I had often thought of detecting that area but never have, but that park has been really good to me.

My apology for having to grab my stuff off the board last night while you were talking.

Looking forward to meeting you "in the field" for a hunt.

Mike

Thx Art! Hope you're cleared to detect soon. Thought from one of your recent posts that something was keepin' you in.

It was my pleasure to meet you. I hope to you out in the field one day. Good luck on your next outing.

Congrats on digging that bucket lister McCDig. You seem to have the ability to sniff out coins no matter where you swing the coil.

Thanks L-D! I'm headed back there soon. There's more ground to cover and I'm waiting to find that next little hotspot. Here's hoping I get something round and green of the metallic variety. :happysmiley:

Congratualtions on the productive relic hunt! :occasion14:
