A heartbreaker and a question about a piece of debitage

Hello,

This one would have been really nice if it were whole And can anyone tell me what kinf of material this debitage is from? Thought it was a little strange. Thanks in advance guys.

Nice findsThe piece of debitage would depend on where you are (what state). If you don't see a lot of that stone one thing to remember is that glaciers and old rivers moved a lot of stone around. Even this far south I find small Great Lake stones of all types.

Don`t know where your located but it resembles Knife River flint.

Or if you're from the South, Coastal Plains Chert maybe?

Well IMO they are both heartbreakers. I am seeing flaking on both pieces you posted.

Yes definitely pressure flaking all over the piece referred to as debris.
As far as the material a location will definitely help I'm guessing the Northeast

And rock, the brownish piece is like a rectangular shape with a pointed tip, I'll post more pics, it doesn't look like a point or anything though...

Yes the last one is a reduction piece. I find them like that to where it looks like they were going to leave it then hit a problem in the stone and had to go to another layer to make it rite.

I don't know what anyone else sees but as far as I'm concerned the work on the edge of that piece was purposely put on that piece.
It looks like a small scraper

Hey there METAL, you are in the mid Atlantic area aren't you? We find artifacts here occasionally that look to be made of a similar semi translucent material, to the piece in question. We generically call it "chalcedony", and sure wish we were able to find more of it. Pretty stuff whatever it's name and source.

Yup, MA/RI area. Pretty cool material, really stood out in the sun.

the small brown piece looks like a THUMB scraper to me. Definitely some type of tool....

I don't see any change in patina anywhere on the piece in question that tells me it either broke a very very long time ago or that was the entire piece I've found lots of quick made tools on very small pieces like that

The chalcedony is probably from Limerock, RI. It was a source for both chalcedony as well as jasper in southeastern New England.
