I found this next to some Civil War bullets. I know it's a piece of lead but what were they using this for? The hole almost goes completely through it. image.webpimage.webp

I think Mucky might have been suggesting it was a weight for a net. Sometimes handmade ones are found near old casting-net locations.

It has the oxidation of being old. Looks like a soldier was carving the time away.
 

The hole doesn't go all the way through it. So they couldn't have put rope or string through it.

I bet your right. If you look below the hole it looks like it is concave like a bullet. I would check and see if there are threads in the hole.
 

Maybe it was the first hollow point bullet.
