🥇 BANNER A little piece of local history

[Pick_axe]

This is a dog tag stamped Clyde F Goode, Cpl, Co(?) 24th infantry, USA. The reverse is stamped with his serial number. The 24th infantry regiment was a Buffalo Soldier unit comprised of African American enlisted and white officers. They were assigned to General 'Blackjack' Pershing to secure the border from Pancho Villa's forces. All of this about about 6 miles and 103 years from where I'm sitting. Holding a piece of history.
The 24th served with distinction. Hand salute, Corporal Goode.

Great save....wonder if any descendants are still around.

I was thinking the same thing. I looked for a muster and can't find one. Anybody here research this sort of thing?

Yes, I actually live near Columbus, a small town 3 miles from the border that was once raided by Pancho Villa's men. Right next to the town is the site of the First Aero Squadron, the very first active military air unit. I believe the 24th may have bivouacked there.

Thank you very much, GW! I didn't think of Ancestry and I even have an account there. Corporal Goode was young to have earned his stripes. Rank came hard back then.

Nice one of a kind find!
